The Supercars eSeries will not visit the famed Nurburgring circuit for Round 5 of the BP Supercars All Stars eSeries next Tuesday, 5 May, following confirmation of the event format today.

Originally, the series was to have visited both the Spa-Francorchamps and Nurburgring circuits; however, series organisers have made the decision to focus on the Belgian venue.

The format will be similar to that used for Round 3 of the series at Bathurst, with a Top 10 Shootout, a pair of sprint races (with the second of those races featuring a full reverse grid) and a longer feature race.

In a slight tweak to the format, grid positions for the feature race will now be determined by combining the points from the two sprint races, rather than just using the finishing positions from Race 2.

Supercars Television and Content boss, Nathan Prendergast, said lap times at the lengthy Spa circuit were a driving factor behind the decision to tweak the original schedule.

“The main deciding factor on sticking to the one track was the length of the lap at Spa; it’s actually a longer lap than Bathurst and given that Bathurst worked so successfully with the format we used, we decided let’s simplify the fifth round,” Prendergast said.

“The format worked very well, we’re going back to one reverse grid, and the longer final race with two stops provided some good strategy.

“We’ll still look to do two tracks at shorter circuits moving forward, but definitely because it’s a 2:20 lap basically, we’re sticking with Spa for next week.”
